Swedish Left Party Leader Jonas Sjöstedt published a statement on social media, in which he pointed out that Turkish President Tayyip Erdoğan imprisons representatives of political parties, oppresses Kurds and other minorities and silences the media in order to eliminate democracy.

Sjöstedt said; “HDP (Peoples’ Democratic Party) is the only power that can stand against these developments. If HDP triumphs in these elections, Turkey will have a brighter future. No matter what their belief and ethnic background is, for people, there is an opportunity to build a true democracy.”

Remarking that Swedish Left Party struggles for the jailed HDP members to be released, Sjöstedt added; “We call on all eligible voters to go to ballot boxes and cast their vote for HDP.
