The North-East Syrian women’s movement Kongra Star Assembly made a press statement in front of Mihemed Şêxo Cultural Center in Qamishlo with the participation of women's organizations and representatives of the political parties and institutions in the region.
The press statement, read in Kurdish and Arabic, said, “In recent days, women, children and oppressed peoples have been subjected to massacres, brutal inhuman treatment and oppression at the hands of the HTS (Hayat Tahrir al-Sham) and violent groups under their control in the mainly Alawite-populated cities such as Latakia, Homs, Tartus. Massacres and tortures committed against a defenseless community are unacceptable from any point of view, and these actions are inhuman.”
Calling the silence of the international community and the United Nations in the face of these crimes against humanity unacceptable, Kongra Star said, “Democratic and international forces, the United Nations and its relevant institutions must not remain silent in the face of these practices and must take the necessary attitudes. A Damascus regime that is hostile to different faiths, women and children will not be able to build a secure future and an equal and free system for Syrian society.”
The statement concluded: “With the call for 'Peace and Democratic Society', we in the Assembly of the North-East Syrian Kongra Star Movement do not accept these practices against the Alawite people, women and children, and we condemn the approach of this mentality. We call on women all over the world to raise their voices against these massacres, to struggle and to inform the public. With women's power, intellect and emotions, we call for resistance and struggle against the power struggle and jihadist mentality. Once again, we call on all Syrian women to unite their voices and colors against the massacres and inhuman killings. It is time to raise our voices, to organize, to call for a free, equal, democratic and peaceful life.”
