Qereçox martyrs commemorated

20 YPG and YPJ fighters who were martyred in an attack carried out by the occupying Turkish state in 2017 were commemorated with a glorious ceremony at Mount Qereçox.

A glorious ceremony was held on Mount Qereçox near Derik to commemorate the 20 YPJ and YPG fighters who were martyred in an attack carried out by the Turkish state on the headquarters of the General Command of the People's Defence Units (YPG) on 25 April 2017.

Speaking at the ceremony which was attended by the components of Cizîr Canton, Cewahir Osman, Executive Member of the Assembly of Martyrs' Families of Northern and Eastern Syria, commemorated the martyrs of freedom.

Cewahir Osman said, "Our enemy continues its occupation plans against us. It is trying to break the will of our peoples and to eliminate the gains that were achieved thanks to the ideas of Leader Abdullah Öcalan and at the cost of the lives of martyrs."

Underlining that the will of the peoples is greater than the attacks of the occupying Turkish state, Cewahir Osman emphasised that women in particular are targeted by the occupying Turkish state because they lead the freedom revolution in the region and destroy ISIS in order to ensure the security of the region.

Cewahir Osman vowed that they will continue to struggle to frustrate all plans against the peoples in the region.

Speaking after, YPJ Spokesperson Ruksen Mihemed said, "Today is the 7th anniversary of the martyrdom of Qareçox martyrs. Each martyr is a symbol of our history of struggle."

Ruksen Mihemed said, "Our martyrs, who had enlightened thought and the power of resistance, fought for the construction of a democratic nation, for the brotherly and united life of the peoples and sacrificed their lives for this cause. We are here together today thanks to their sacrifices."

Emphasising that the occupying Turkish state will never be able to break their will, YPJ Spokesperson added, "We are getting stronger as we resist. We must further increase our resistance and struggle against all conspiracies and annihilation plans."
