Kurds celebrate 3rd Cultural Festival in Reims

The 3rd Kurdish Cultural Festival, held in the French city of Reims, saw enthusiastic participation. The festival sent messages underlining Kurdish unity and cultural resistance, and demanding freedom for Öcalan.

Organized in memory of Hozan Serhad, the festival was led by the Arin Mirkan Democratic Kurdish Community Center and Ciwanên Kurdistanî ên Fransa (CKF). It began with a moment of silence in honor of the Martyrs of Kurdistan’s Freedom.

The participants, dressed in traditional Kurdish attire and carrying flags of the YPG, YPJ, YBŞ, and KCK, created a vibrant and spirited atmosphere. Children were also a focus of the event, with a dedicated play area and Kurdish-language activities that attracted attention.

With thousands in attendance, the demand for the freedom of Leader Apo stood out prominently. The slogans “Bijî Serok Apo” (Long live Leader Apo), “Bê Serok Jiyan Nabe” (No life without a leader), and “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” (Woman, Life, Freedom) echoed throughout the venue.

Speaking on behalf of the organizing committee, Galip Sönmez saluted Leader Apo’s call for Peace and a Democratic Society and drew attention to the oppression faced by the Kurdish people. He stated that the governments of Turkey, Iran, Syria, and Iraq are united in their stance against the Kurds, and emphasized that the people must see this period as a moment of destiny.

KCK Executive Council member Zübeyir Aydar also delivered a speech at the festival. He highlighted the importance of the youth and women’s struggle, recalling Leader Apo’s words, “We started young, we will succeed young.” Aydar stressed that this struggle will achieve success through the leadership of the youth.

The festival concluded with performances by artists Şiyar û Dijwar, Şerîf Omerî, Helbest Arî, and Dengbêj Xiyasetîn.
