Forcibly displaced women from Afrin call for international action to end the occupation

Forcibly displaced women from Afrin called on the United Nations (UN), UNICEF, and Amnesty International to fulfill their human rights obligations and end the occupation of their Afrin and other occupied areas.

Women who were forcibly displaced due to the Turkish state's occupation of the Afrin-Shehba Canton made a press statement in Raqqa, demanding that the occupiers be removed from their land.

Accompanied by many women who had been forcibly displaced and members of Kongra Star, Erîfe Hebeş read the press statement in front of the Euphrates Basin building in the Raqqa Canton.

The statement said that the Turkish state and its mercenaries continue to commit serious human rights violations such as abduction, ransom, torture, and extortion against civilians in Afrin, Shehba, and other occupied areas.

Recalling the recent murder of a child named Mistefa Cemîl Şêxo, in Afrin, Hebeş stated that the incident was a clear violation of international conventions on the protection of children's rights.

The statement also drew attention to the responsibility of the Syrian Transitional Government for these crimes and called on the United Nations (UN), UNICEF, and Amnesty International to take action.

The women demanded that these institutions fulfill their human rights obligations and that the mercenaries supported by the occupying Turkish state be removed from Afrin and other occupied areas.

The statement concluded with the following call: “The Afrin region must be opened to international monitoring, displaced persons must be allowed to return safely to their homes, and the Turkish state must immediately cease its human rights violations.”
