Operations of the YPG/YPJ (People's/Women's Defense Units) in ISIS-occupied areas in south Kobanê continue.

YPG Press Office said in a written statement that the Operation Commander Rubar Qamishlo which was started on 6 May with the participation of forces from Kobanê and Cizîrê cantons continue uninterruptedly in its 64th day.

The statement said that fighters of the YPG/YPJ have repelled the ISIS attacks in the area between Ain Îsa and Mount Kizwan and inflicted heavy blows on the gangs. “However, the gang groups try desperately to protect their occupation in that area by deploying fighters and weapons reinforcement”, it said.

YPG said that gangs launched a new attack on the town of Ain Issa by advancing three armed vehicles. Fierce clashes were erupted once Defense Units moved to intervene against the assault; numbers of the attackers’ casualties were not immediately verified. There, a small unit of the gangs was positioned in the town’s countryside where YPG/YPJ forces initiated an attack to capture those assailants.

During the stated confrontation one YPG/YPJ combatant was martyred in action after exhibiting an abundant deal of resistance on the fields of battle.

According to the statement, gang groups carried out an attack in which they targeted the village of Shargirat on the road linking Tal Abyad to Raqqa, yesterday evening. Clashes that started after the attack, which came from two separate directions, are still continuing intermittently.

Efforts of search operations by YPG/YPJ troops are simultaneously enduring in places to the west of Mt. Kezwan, where 6 corpses of the ISIS gangs were found, YPG said.

Representing a key component to the wider engagement with the ISIS gangs near Kobani, a military operation by members of the People’s Defense Units (YPG) along with the Women’s Defense Units (YPJ) continues in full force with the main goal of targeting and liberating ISIS-occupied areas to the south of Kobanê as well as providing protection and security for the local population in that region.

YPG added that ISIS elements who have added significant intensity to their attacks in order to obstacle the Defense Units’ advance, attempted for 2 fresh assaults on the villages of Serêkaniyê and Makhareten. YPG/YPJ forces were able to fully repel the attack on Serekaniye village; yet fighting is ongoing in Makhareten village, the statement added.
