Despite a ceasefire declared unilaterally by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), the Turkish army continues to escalate their attacks on the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). According to the HPG balance sheet for March, the Turkish army carried out a total of 11,585 air and ground attacks against the guerrilla areas in northern Iraq last month. On April 7, two guerrillas were martyred in the Çirav area in Garê region as a result of two bombardments carried out by an UCAV of the occupying Turkish army. On April 11, two guerrillas were martyred as a result of Turkish attacks with chemical weapons and banned explosives in the Zap region.
The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) announced that the occupying Turkish army continued to target guerrilla areas.
The statement released by the HPG Press Liaison Center on Tuesday includes the following details:
"Attacks by warplanes
On April 26 and 27, the Girê Bahar Resistance Area in Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region was bombed twice by Turkish warplanes.
Attacks with heavy weapons, artillery and howitzers
On April 26, 27, and 28, the Turkish army carried out a total of 746 attacks with heavy weapons, artillery, and howitzers, targeting the areas of Berê Zînê and Lolan in Xakurkê region 8 times; the areas of Girê Kun and Mijê in Garê region 43 times; the areas of Bêşîlî, Şêlazê and Serê Metîna in Metîna region 490 times; the areas of Girê Amediyê and Girê Bahar in Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region 205 times.
Interventions by our forces against attacks
On April 26, our YJA Star (Free Women’s Troops) forces intervened against invaders who attempted to attack our tunnels and positions in the Girê Bahar Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region.
On April 27, an armored vehicle belonging to the occupiers in an attack position in the Girê Amediyê Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region was destroyed by our Şehîd Axîn Mûş Unit with a kamikaze drone."
