The Internal Security Forces of North and East Syria have repelled an attack by cells of the terrorist organization “Islamic State” (ISIS) in eastern Deir ez-Zor. The authorities announced this in a statement on Sunday.
According to the Internal Security Forces statement on Sunday, an armed group attacked a security forces checkpoint in the village of al-Sabha with hand grenades on Saturday night. The attackers also opened fire on a nearby post at a water station as they retreated.
A patrol dispatched from the center of al-Basira to provide reinforcements was also fired upon. Security forces responded immediately and repelled the attack, the statement said. There were no casualties or injuries among the Internal Security Forces.
The Internal Security Forces (Asayish) of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES) acts as a civil protection agency, and its tasks include fighting ISIS. A week ago, three Asayish members were killed in an ISIS attack near Raqqa.
