HPG: Two guerrillas killed in Turkish attacks with chemical weapons and banned explosives in Zap

The Turkish army continues its attacks against guerrilla areas in northern Iraq despite a ceasefire declared by the PKK following Abdullah Öcalan's call for peace and democratic society.

Despite a ceasefire declared unilaterally by the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), the Turkish army continues to escalate their attacks on the guerrilla-held Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq). According to the HPG balance sheet for March, the Turkish army carried out a total of 11,585 air and ground attacks against the guerrilla areas in northern Iraq last month. On April 7, two guerrillas were martyred in the Çirav area in Garê region as a result of two bombardments carried out by an UCAV of the occupying Turkish army.

The press center of the People's Defense Forces (HPG) announced that the occupying Turkish army continued to target guerrilla areas.

The statement released by the HPG Press Liaison Center on Sunday said:

"As is well known to the public, the Kurdistan Freedom Guerrilla has been in a ceasefire position since March 1, 2025. However, there has been no change in the intensity of the attacks by the occupying Turkish army. Along with its attacks from the air and ground, the Turkish army has increased its use of chemical weapons and banned explosives against our tunnels and positions recently.

The occupying Turkish army, unable to break the will of our comrades putting up a selfless fight, committed another crime against humanity on April 11 by intensively attacking our tunnels in the Girê Cûdî Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region with chemical weapons and banned explosives. As a result of these attacks, our comrades Besê and Mîtra, who wrote an epic by refusing to yield to the occupiers, fell as martyrs. The personal information of our immortal martyrs, who demonstrated the invincibility of the Apoist militant stance through their lives, struggles, and resistance, will be shared with our people and the public at a later date.

Details of the attacks carried out by the invading Turkish army and the response by the guerrilla forces to these attacks are as follows:

Attacks with banned explosives

On April 24 and 26, our tunnels in the Girê Amediyê Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region were bombed twice with banned explosives.

Attacks by warplanes

On April 24 and 25, the Girê Bahar Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region was bombed twice by warplanes.

Attacks with heavy weapons, artillery and howitzers

Between April 24 and 25, the Turkish army carried out a total of 1,164 attacks with heavy weapons, artillery, and howitzers, targeting the areas of Sinînê and Lolan in the Xakurkê region 6 times; the areas of Zêvkê, Dêreşê, Girgaşê and Mijê in the Garê region 117 times; the areas of Bêşîlî, Şêlazê, and Serê Metîna in the Metîna region 560 times; the Girê Amediyê and Girê Bahar Resistance Areas in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region 481 times.

Interventions by our forces against attacks

On April 23, our YJA Star (Free Women’s Troops) forces intervened against invaders who attempted to attack our tunnels and positions in the Girê Bahar Resistance Area in the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region.

On April 25, in the Girê Amediye Resistance Area of the Şehîd Delîl Western Zap region, occupying forces attacking our tunnels and positions with bulldozers and excavators were intervened by our forces using medium automatic weapons."
