The Ishtar Assembly at the Martyr Rustem Cudi Refugee Camp called on the Turkish state to take political and legal steps following Öcalan's call.
The Ishtar Assembly at the Martyr Rustem Cudi Refugee Camp in Maxmur announced their support for the historic ‘Call for Peace and Democratic Society’ made by Abdullah Öcalan on February 27.
The press statement started with a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs of the Kurdistan Freedom Movement.
Reading the statement, Ishtar Assembly Member Ayten Kartal said, “Although the Turkish state has initiated talks (with Abdullah Öcalan) out of fear of its own future, we know that the main determinant of this process is the Leader and the resistance.”
Kartal continued: “Although these talks came to the agenda mainly due to the crisis in Turkey, the Leader responded as a socialist leader and said, 'I can develop solutions on political and legal grounds'. On February 27, 2025, he addressed the public with a letter titled 'Call for Peace and Democratic Society' and called on the PKK to dissolve itself.”
The statement concluded: “As women living in the Martyr Rustem Cudi Refugee Camp, we have been struggling for 30 years to exist with our identity, language and culture. We call on the Turkish state to be prudent and to be ready for the historic change process. This call by Leader Öcalan must be answered. In this context, political and legal steps must be taken. Leader Öcalan’s role in this historic process must be recognized and his freedom must be ensured so that the process can proceed in a healthy way.”
