Speaking to ANF, Van Metropolitan Municipality co-mayor Neslihan Şedal said that a special war policy is being implemented in Van (Wan), and added that Kurdish women have resisted denial and assimilation throughout history. Şedal said that the trustee policy is an attack on the identity and language of Kurdish women. "They are trying to silence society by targeting women. However, women are putting up a strong fight against these attacks."
Trustees are first targeting women’s institutions
Co-mayor Şedal said that the trustee appointment to 14 municipalities is part of the special war policies systematically carried out against Kurdish women. She said that the DEM Party tried to build a free life with women's institutions, and added: "As soon as the trustees usurped our municipalities, they first targeted women's institutions. They do not want women to leave their homes. Because when they see a strong society, they perceive women, language and free life as a threat."
Women will fill the squares on 8 March
Şedal continued: "As soon as the trustee was appointed, the first attack was directed at women. However, our people, and in particular women, showed great determination against these attacks. Women will fill the squares on 8 March to protest both the trustees and special war policies."
Şedal said: "We are taking to the streets on 8 March with the slogan ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’ for an honorable life. We want Mr. Öcalan's freedom so that he can work to the creation of an environment of dialogue. He has worked for peace for 26 years in Imrali. Women's voices, ideas and struggles will echo in every square against the trustees."
