DBP: Determined struggle necessary for a democratic solution and social peace

In the final declaration of the Party Council meeting, DBP said: “A strong popular movement, conscious political orientation, and determined struggle are necessary for a democratic solution and social peace.”

The Democratic Regions Party (DBP) Party Council (PM) released the final declaration of its meetings held in Amed (tr: Diyarbakır) on June 14-15, which said the following:

“A democratic solution to the Kurdish question will determine the common future not only of the Kurds but of all the peoples in Turkey and the Middle East. In the face of the current system, which denies women, youngsters and people a life without poverty, war, and oppression, we are the bearers of peace, equality, and freedom. In the construction of a democratic society, women are not merely subjects but also a founding force. We are fully aware that a democratic, moral, and political society cannot be built without women’s consciousness of freedom and political leadership.

In this process, where the system has implemented its special war policies in every aspect, corrupting society and attempting to sever it from its values, the organized struggle of women is the most powerful means of both rebuilding these values and socializing them. For this reason, women are not only a force that resists but shapes and transforms discourse.

As Kurdish women, we act with the responsibility of being at the forefront of our struggle in every area we are present in. By saying “women first, women to lead,” we will organize and grow stronger by embracing Mr. Öcalan's call for peace and a democratic society. Both the struggle for women's freedom and the broader struggle for the freedom of the Kurdish people once again demonstrate the vital importance of organized strength and political consciousness.

The Syrian temporary government’s exclusionary and oppressive policies toward the Kurds represent an approach that ignores the Kurdish people's role as a regional actor. However, the Kurds in the Middle East are no longer merely a people; they are also in a decisive position in the construction of a democratic political and social system. This new reality has made the role of the Kurdish people in the regional equation more visible and effective.

The possibility of Israel becoming the new hegemonic power in the Middle East will lead to a reshaping of the regional balance of power. In this power shift, the position of the Kurds, the alliances they form, and the platforms on which they defend their national-democratic demands will be decisive. At this juncture, the strategic acumen of the Kurdish movement is of historic importance in terms of not only defending itself but also forging a constructive and solution-oriented political line.

In Turkey specifically, serious efforts are being made to explain the Peace and Democratic Society process to the people and to reinforce the legitimacy of this process among broad sections of the population. There is a growing expectation in society that the state will take concrete steps in this process. In particular, the new phase that the region entered after February 27 has revealed that security-oriented policies have reached their limits and that a realistic democratic solution is imperative. The Kurdish question, which is the most burning and fundamental problem in the over-a century-long history of the Republic of Turkey, can only be resolved on the basis of democratization. This is because this issue directly concerns not only the Kurdish people but also the desire of the entire society of Turkey to live in peace, freedom, and equality.

At this point, political parties and all democratic institutions have a great responsibility. The process of peace and a democratic society should not be seen as merely a dialogue between the state and the Kurdish movement, but rather as a multidimensional democratization effort that should be carried out with the participation of all components of society. Political parties should actively contribute to this process and spread the perspective of peace and resolution among the social base. Peace is not merely the cessation of hostilities; it is the guarantee of a dignified, equal, and free life for all peoples.

As a result, as the future of the Middle East is being rewritten, the Kurdish people have reached a historic threshold in determining their own future. The most important foundation of this power is the organized will of the people. A strong popular movement, conscious political orientation, and determined struggle are necessary for a democratic solution and social peace. It is of vital importance that the state approaches this process with a sense of historical responsibility, fulfilling its political and legal responsibilities without delay.

A democratic solution to the Kurdish issue will determine the common future not only of the Kurds but of all the peoples of Turkey and the Middle East. Therefore, every individual, every institution, and every political entity should act with awareness of this responsibility to ensure that the future of the peoples is built on peace and democratization.”
