The release of Nedim Yılmaz, a prisoner behind bars for 32 years, has been postponed for the eighth time.
The release of Nedim Yılmaz, a prisoner at Bolu F-Type High Security Prison, has been postponed for the eighth time by the Administration and Observation Board. Yılmaz, who was arrested on August 18, 1993, and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Istanbul State Security Court (DGM) following his trial, had his sentence expire on July 29, 2023.
After that date, Nedim Yılmaz's release was postponed seven times by the Administration and Observation Board. In its assessment on May 28, the Board decided that Yılmaz had not committed any disciplinary offenses and was “in good standing.”
The Board concluded that he was not “remorseful,” citing previous disciplinary penalties and the fact that he was being held in the same cell as other prisoners who had been detained under the same charges.
The Board postponed Yılmaz's release until September 3, 2025. With this decision, Nedim Yılmaz's release has been postponed for the eighth time.
