PKK (Kurdistan Worker's Party) guerrilla Zilan (Zeynep Kınacı), who carried out a suicide attack against a group of Turkish soldiers in Dersim on 30 June 1996, has been commemorated in a ceremony held in Medya Defence Zones.
The ceremony was attended by YJA STAR (Free Women's Troops) commanders Kawenda Herekol, Peyman Amed, Kurdistan Mardin and HPG commander Orhan Çevik as well as hundreds of guerrillas.
YJA STAR commander Kawenda Herekol made a speech at the ceremony commenting on the struggle developed in line with the one Zilan waged. Herekol said the line of the struggle developed following the heroic act and personality of Zilan involves loyalty to the leadership. “Today the line of Zilan has turned into a spirit, thought and a devoted life in all Kurdistan and for all women”, said the YJA STAR Commander, adding that Zilan displayed what it means to understand the leadership and to act in accordance with the necessities of the concrete situation in order to further improve the liberation struggle.
Herekol finally said they will remain loyal to the line of the martyrs and will carry the values bequeathed by them, and called for stepping up the struggle against fascist and regressive mentalities.
