On Tuesday, the Turkish army fired artillery at the village of Dêreşê near the district of Amadiya in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) for over an hour and a half. According to local reports, the shelling began at around 5:30 p.m. and continued until around 7:00 p.m.
Video footage from the scene shows several buildings in the residential area damaged in the attack, including a village school, a mosque, houses, and a stable. No confirmed information on possible injuries was initially available.
According to Kamaran Osman, spokesperson for the local branch of the Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT), not only Dêreşê but also the surrounding villages of Girgaşê, Mijê, Kevne Mijê, and Spîndarê were hit by Turkish artillery. The NGO documented a total of 76 strikes.
