Guerrillas affiliated to YJA-Star (Free Women's Troops) have celebrated March 8 International Women's Day in Kirkuk city of South Kurdistan.

The celebration was marked by a speech of YJA-Star commander Çiğdem Doku who called attention to the importance of Kurdish women's struggle for freedom, saying; “Kurdish women have achieved great successes and paved a way for the whole world's women in the freedom struggle they are waging today at the cost of heavy prices.”

Doğu on behalf of YJA-Star guerrillas saluted Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan and congratulated the March 8 of all world women, and those fighting in the ranks of the freedom struggle.

YJA-Star commander emphasised that Kurdish women's freedom struggle, going on for dozens of years, has exposed some realities of great importance during the battle against ISIS. She said; "The fight of YPJ in Rojava, that of YJA-Star in Maxmur and Kirkuk, and most recently that of YPS-Jin for democratic autonomy in North Kurdistan, has revealed how valuable this struggle is."

Doğu continued; "ISIS attacked all our values of freedom, tried to leave us without memory. Still, the struggle of women and guerrillas eventually defeated all their goals. It wouldn't be wrong to say that the struggle in Kurdistan is currently progressing in the quandary of freedom and slavery. Women's freedom struggle is fighting the reactionary fascist mindset. Everyone should know that this spirit of women's struggle will never be broken, no matter what it would cost. Nobody will be able to cope with this struggle, the latest example of which is the fight of YPS-Jin units in North Kurdistan."
