Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Woman Parliamentarians' Group released the final declaration of its meeting on May 6.

‘THEY COMMITTED MASSACRES IN ORDER TO LEGITIMIZE THE INTERVENTION’

In its declaration, the group emphasized that the HDP’s electoral success in June 7 elections strengthened democratic politics and democratization in Turkey, and upset the AKP’s plan to stay in power and change the constitution. The group said that the AKP saw the HDP as the main obstacle on the way of its plan, and staged a coup by attackinig the peoples’ will and disregarding the results of June 7 elections. The HDP group noted that the AKP carried out massacres in Cizre, Sur, Silopi, Nusaybin, Yüksekova and other parts of Kurdistan and declared war on academics, journalists and opposition groups in order to legitimize its coup and eliminate the HDP.

'THEY WANT TO ELIMINATE WOMEN’S STRUGGLE’

The HDP Woman Parliamentarians Group emphasised that the AKP’s nationalist, fundamentalist and sexist policies deepen the coup and reinforce the patriarchal mentality’s thousands of years-old aggression on women. The group recalled the public display of deceased woman fighters’ bodies and said that the AKP’s attack on women aimed to break women’s will and enslave the society.

The HDP group underlined that the AKP could only establish its dictatorship in an environment where women do not have a say, noting that the recent lifting of HDP parliamentarians’ immunities aimed to eliminate women and the HDP. The group also stated that the recent attacks inside the Turkish Parliament targeted women particularly, and the AKP was trying to cripple women’s representation power and struggle.

CALL FOR RESISTANCE AGAINST THE COUP

Lastly, HDP Woman Parliamentarians' Group stated that women’s leading role in resistance and joint struggle would upset the AKP’s plans, and called upon all women to show solidarity and join the resistance against the AKP’s coup.
