WMW’s 4th International Action kicks off in Kurdistan

Activities as part of the 4th International Action of the World March of Women (WMW) have commenced in Nusaybin district of Mardin in order to salute the Rojava women’s revolution.
The global feminist network WMW has launched today 4th International Action in Kurdistan, dedicating this year’s march to the revolution of the Rojava women. WMW which was first held in 2000 and is repeated every 5 years, started this year in Nusaybin with the aim of protesting borders and in support of the women resisting in Kobanê.
Women from all over Kurdistan, Turkey, Europe and the world have gathered as of this morning in Nusaybin in front of Mitanni Culture Centre under the slogan “We will be on the march until women are all free!” and “Let's organize and build free life together with the women resisting in Kobanê”. Many women were dressed in traditional Kurdish clothes and performed Kurdish folk dance halay. Some of the countries where women came to Nusaybin from are; Germany, Serbia, Portugal, Greece, France, Spain, Afghanistan, Argentina, Lebanon, Catalonia, Britain, Bask, Turkey and all four parts of Kurdistan.
Mitanni Culture Centre of Nusaybin Munucipality, where the forums and panels are taking place, has been decorated by the pictures of the women, who led the struggle for liberation in Kurdistan and the world , including the three Kurdish women assasinated in Paris, Sakine Cansız, Fidan Doğan and Leyla Şaylemez as well as pictures of Deniz Fırat, Gurbetelli Ersöz, Arin Mirxan, Sibel Bulut, Clara Zetkin, Leyla Qasim, Kader Ortakkaya, Çiçek Botan, Zeynep Kınacı, Sema Yüce, Mirabel Kızkardeşler, Gülnaz Karataş, Rehşan Demirel, Ekin Ceren Doğruak, Delila, Viyan Soran, Gurbet Aydın, Şirin Elemhuyi and Evrim Demir in addition to the YPJ and KJA flags as well as yellow, red, green and purple color flags.
The women of Nusaybin welcomed other women in their traditional clothes and chanting slogans “Woman, Life, Freedom”, “Long Live Kobanê resistance”. Women condemned the ISIS gangs in their slogans during the rally.
In the meantime a painting exhibition titled “The face of the resisting women” has also been set in the garden of the Cultural Centre and a memory notebook for Sakine Cansız has been presented available for women to write down their feelings and thoughts about Cansız. Women also distributed the newspapers Azadiya Welat and Özgür Gündem, as well as setting a kermis to introduce the traditional Armenian, Kurdish and Arab jewellery art.
Banners written in Kurdish, Turkish, Assyrian and Arabic and posters of WMW were hanged also on the streets of Nusaybin the streets of which have taken the color of women.
Following the march, two panels have started at the Cultural Centre entitled “Democratic Confederalism and Rojava Revolution led by Women” and “Ecology and Exploitation of Nature”.
