Mothers call for support for peace

In activities organised to mark Mothers’ Day in Istanbul, Van, Riha (Urfa), Mardin and Hatay, mothers called for support for peace.

An activity was organised on the initiative of KJA in Artemitan (Edremit) district of Van. While stress was put on the war in the Middle East, which is being waged by colonialist forces, affecting mostly the mothers, roses were given to mothers in another activity held in the Saray district of Van.

In the activity organised in Urfa by the HDP and DBP province branches, HDP Istanbul candidate Hüda Kaya made a speech strongly criticizing the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who said: “Heaven is under the feet of mothers,” but who at the same time insulted a mother who lost her child. Kaya asked: “Is this the value you attribute to mothers?”

In the Derik district of Mardin, in the meantime, Peace Mothers Assembly members visited mothers of those who lost their lives during fighting in the ranks of the PKK, HPG, YPG and YPJ. The mothers later on visited the graves of those fighters.

Istanbul Peace Mothers Assembly members, supported by Saturday Mothers, held a press conference in front of Dolmabahce Palace. Speaking here on behalf of the mothers, Hüsna Özcan said they expect all mothers to support peace.

Meanwhile, another activity of mothers took place in the Bismil district of Amed, celebrating the mothers’ day of primarily the mother of Abdullah Öcalan, Üveys Öcalan, and Mother Berfo, the symbolic name of the struggle for the disappeared in Turkey, as well as all the mothers.

Another activity took place in Hatay on the initiative of women from the People’s House, protesting the war policies of the AKP government and the killing of women that have reached the level of feminicide during the rule of the AKP.
