Kurdish women in Russia preparing to hold congress

The Kurdish women living in Russia have started preparations for a congress in order to strengthen and extend their self-organisation.

The Kurdish women living in Russian Federation are preparing to build Kurdish Women’s Congress in order to have a system of their own through which they can strengthen and extend their self-organisation.

The Kurdish women are first holding meetings in various cities of Russia on the initiative of the KJK (Congress of Free Women) in order to set up committees before the assemblage of the congress. Today, a women’s meeting has been held for the first time in Tamblov city of the Russian Federation with the participation of a large number of women. KJK Russia representative Gulan Roj commented on the aim of the meeting, stressing that “the liberation of the society could be made possible through the liberation of the women”.

Roj drew attention to the politically important role that Kurdistan owns in the Middle East, where important developments are taking place, and added that the resistance waged in Rojava for the values of humanity and the 7 June elections to be held in Turkey and North Kurdistan are currently the main agenda of the Kurdish political movement. Roj stressed that the Kurdish people living abroad must also get united around these struggles.

Gulan Roj further stressed the importance of gathering Kurdish Women’s Congress in Russia and said “In line with the program and principles of the KJK, women’s assemblies and committees have been set up in 4 parts of Kurdistan and in all the settlements where Kurdish women densely live. We also have to enhance our organised power in Russia by building Kurdish Women’s Congress”. Roj added that the preparation for the congress will gain momentum in the coming days.

The meeting ended following the assessment of the works of Tambov Women’s Assembly and forming of a committee to undertake the preparation of the congress in the region.
