Ekin Ceren Women's Center of Diyarbakır's Kayapınar Municipality has been working to create employment for women since 2008.

The multidimensional center provides not only family consulting but also psychological support for women, as well as Kurdish and English language course and training on women's outlook on life, economic and social life, and gender sociology.

The center draws great interest from women from across the city.

A trainee, Sultan Acar, who attends the Shirt Course which is providing service for almost a month now, voices her satisfaction for acquiring a profession and also joining the Kurdish and English language courses. “I love to struggle in any way. Our purpose is to set our youths a good example”, she says.

Acar put emphasis on the importance of mothers' consciousness for the training of their children, and remarked that thanks to the language course she could now read the letters her jailed son writes in Kurdish and reply to his letters.

Acar called on all women gain consciousness in order to stand on their two feet and to avoid expecting things from men.

Course teacher Gurbet Oğuzhan said 22 women are currently attending the course with an aim to specialize in the fields they receive training in, and to have a profession and to live on their own incomes.

Oğuzhan called on women to be open to learn and to benefit from the courses to improve themselves and to have and display their will in the society.

“Women used to stay in houses and their life and living area used to be restricted with that alone. However, things have changed today when they have more advantage and an opportunity to attend such courses.
