The main Kurdish province of North Kurdistan, Amed, is prepared to host women from across the world on International Women’s Day, 8 March.
This year’s World Women’s March will start from the region in support of the women’s struggle, primarily in Rojava.
The women’s organisations have completed the work for the program of this year’s 8 March and organised a joint press conference to announce it. The press conference was jointly held by Amed co-mayor Gültan Kışanak, DBP Amed Branch co-chair Hafize İpek as well as members of KJA (Kurdistan Women’s Communities).
This year’s activities around 8 March will take place under the main slogan: “Let’s get organised together with the women resisting in Kobanê and liberate life”. Speaking at the press conference, DBP Amed branch co-chair Hafize İpek said 3 main marches will take place within the framework of 8 March activities, starting on 6 March in Nusaybin, on 7 March in Mardin and on 8 March in Amed, calling on all women to come together to raise solidarity and to step up the struggle for women’s liberation.
Amed co-mayor Gültan Kışanak emphasised the importance of the World Women’s March starting from the region, drawing attention to the struggle of women in Rojava and the revolution there that is led by women.
“The women’s organisations worldwide have turned their faces to Rojava and are taking strength from the women’s revolution achieved there”, said Kışanak, adding that Amed will host this year’s World Women’s March. The marches in Nusaybin, Mardin and Amed will take place within the framework of the World March, as well as other activities to be held over 4 days.
The Amed co-mayor called on all the women in the city to take part in the march on 8 March, adding that this year’s activities of 8 March are all the more important as many women from all over the world will be in Amed to share and to strengthen the women’s struggle that is growing in Kurdistan, paving the way for the liberation of women.
