346 women murdered in Turkey in the first 10 months of 2015

346 women have been murdered in Turkey in the first 10 months of this year. Of these, 268 were killed and 73 others were injured by men with various guns including arm and knife.

Umut Foundation has released the figures of 2015 regarding violence against women, which recorded a remarkable rise in comparison to the previous year.

346 women have been murdered in Turkey in the first 10 months of this year. Of these, 268 were killed and 73 others were injured by men with various guns including arm and knife.

A total of 46 women were killed by their ex-husbands or friends who later committed a suicide by using the same gun. The Foundation had no figures available as to the fate of dozens of women who survived such attacks with heavy injuries.

According to the figures, Istanbul leads the record rate of femicide committed in the first months of 2015, by witnessing the murder of 29 women and injury of 4 others.

Istanbul is followed by the following cities that often became a scene of killing of women; İzmir, Ankara, Adana, Kocaeli, Mersin, Gaziantep and Diyarbakır.

Diyarbakır and Van have on the other hand witnessed many “suspicious suicides” by women in recent years.

The rise in the rate of protection order for women is revealed by the following figures in comparison to years;

38 thousand in 2009,

45 thousand in 2010,

58 thousand in 2011,

176 thousand in 2013,

188 thousand in 2014.
