Assyrians and other communities in Til Temir city in Cizîr Canton commemorated those martyred confronting the ISIS attacks on February 23.
A commemoration ceremony was held at Al Qedîse Church in the city of Til Temir in memory of dozens of civilians and fighters who fell confronting ISIS attacks on the city and its countryside on 23 February 2015.
The ceremony was attended by Arab, Kurdish, Assyrian and Syriac communities in the city, representatives of political parties, Internal Security Forces and local military commanders.
Candles were lit and speeches were made on the need to build a new Syria based on diversity and decentralization.
Speaking here, Cemîle Kako, a member of the General Assembly of the Democratic Assyrian Party, said: “We call on the international community and the Syrian government to fulfill their responsibilities towards the Assyrians and other peoples and to hold those involved in crimes to account.”
Shamîran Denho, Co-Chair of the Syriac Union Party, emphasized the importance of joint struggle to ensure justice and equality and said, “We are trying to build a pluralistic and decentralized Syria where the rights of all components are secured.”
Shamîran cited the popular resistance at the Tishrin Dam as an example of the people's invincible will.
