The missiles are a last generation weapon that, according to statements by President Vladimir Putin, are able to reach their target in almost all cases and to overcome the defense systems missiles currently in operation.

The special feature of the Avangard is that its speed range goes from 20 to 27 March (speed of sound), that is to say up to 33,000 km / h. In addition the missiles can change direction and height in flight, which makes them the most modern of the existing intercontinental, non-ballistic missiles.

According to several sources, the deployment zone of this first Avangard missile regiment is located in the surroundings of Orenburg, in the Urals, and is the first of a list of last generation conventional armaments, announced by Putin in 2018.
