One of the people who fought the Turkish occupation in South Kurdistan was Goran Mihemed. He was sure that the way to stand up against the occupation and to enjoy freedom was to join the guerrillas, and so he did.

Goran Mihemed believed in the necessity of change both in his own life and in South Kurdistan. With this in mind and his passion for freedom, he joined the guerrillas. He thought that his participation was a reaction to the political system that dominated the people of South Kurdistan, and he took the name 'Serkewt Gabar'.

Guerrilla life

Serkewt never pursued an individualistic lifestyle. He never complained about the difficulties of mountain life. He kept saying that a good life can only be achieved by hard work and continuous efforts. He never complained about small chores, including carrying water or making bread. The beauty of Kurdistan's nature and its colourful landscape created a peculiar joy and happiness in his heart.

He fought in Kirkuk

When ISIS invaded the lands of Kurdistan, he could not accept it and went to Kirkuk to liberate the lands of Kurdistan from the invaders. He fought enemies of the Kurdish people and played a major role in liberating Kurdistan from ISIS.

Returning to Botan

After fulfilling his duty in Kirkuk, he returned to the mountains of Kurdistan. Serkewt went to Botan thinking that the key to the freedom of the Kurdish people and Kurdistan was Bakur (North Kurdistan). Serkewt, who loved the Botan Province, organized many actions against the enemy.

Besta martyr

Guerrilla Serkewt fell as a martyr on 2 August 2018 in the Besta region of Botan as a result of a Turkish airstrike. Like hundreds of his comrades, Serkewt became a part of the Kurdish people's victory leap and deserved the meaning of his name.
