Eight people from North Kurdistan detained in Sulaymaniyah

Six men from northern Kurdistan were reportedly detained in an operation by the security forces in Sulaymaniyah.

Security forces in the Sulaymaniyah city of southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) carried out an operation against political refugees from northern Kurdistan (South-eastern Turkey).

According to the South Kurdistan-based RojNews agency, at least eight people were taken into custody in the operation by the Asayish (public security force).

Six of the detained political refugees from northern Kurdistan were named as Meşruk Çiftçi, Ersoy Yılmaz, Hasan Kaçar, Mehmet Söyler, Servet Akdeniz and Şefik Yıldırım.

Information on the background of the detentions was not immediately available.
