Yazidi women take over the hunger strike in front of the CPT

The second group took over the solidarity hunger strike in support of the action of 14 activists in Strasbourg which has reached day 79.
The solidarity hunger strike was launched last week in front of the Council of Europe and the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT).

The hunger strike which is carried out where the Freedom for Öcalan Vigil is taking place has been undertaken by Cihan Aziz, Kumri Alkış, Zéro Al, Fanuz Hessen, Zekiya Akan, Nuré Alkış and Songül Talay.
Yazidi women activists handed out information leaflets explaining the hunger strike against isolation and spoke to passersby.
Yazidi women also visited the ongoing indefinite hunger strike in Strasbourg in 273 Avenue de Colmar and were welcomed by hunger strikers KCDK-E co-chair Yüksel Koç and Deniz Sürgüt.
Nurê Alkis said that they joined the 5-days hunger strike to participate as women to the resistance women against the isolation of Öcalan.
"We are here to break the silence of the European institutions"
Quoting Leyla Güven who said ‘I get my strength from the Yazidi women’, the group of activists saluted the resistance led by the HDP Hakkari MP.
Nurê Alkis said that their aim was not only to support the resistance, but also to condemn the silence of the European countries and especially the CPT and other institutions.
"We won’t accept life without Öcalan"
The Yazidi people, said the women, will continue to fight for the freedom of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and for the collapse of fascism.
Alkis reminded Öcalan's words ‘Kurdistan is a garden of roses; the Yazidis are the most beautiful of those roses’, and added that Yazidi Kurds won’t accept life without Öcalan.
KCDK-E co-chair Yüksel Koç emphasized that the isolation on Öcalan was also directed towards Shengal and Rojava. The status of Êzîdxan (Yazidi land) or Rojava is possible only with the end of isolation. For this, added Koç, it is important that everyone does his/her share.
Koç commended the struggle and resistance of the Yazidi people who faced the DAESH genocide in Shengal and commended Zeki Şengali who was killed by the Turkish state.
