Women's World March of Euskal Herria in solidarity with Leyla
Statements and declarations of solidarity with the hunger strike of HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Guven demanding the end of the isolation of Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Ocalan continues to arrive from all over the world.
The Women's World March of Euskal Herria issued a statement in solidarity with Leyla Guven on her 156th day of hunger strike. ”We want to call for feminist internationalist solidarity to face the authoritarian, macho and oppressive Turkish regime”, said the statement
The full statement reads following:
“Kurdish comrade Leyla Güven was arrested on 22 January 2018 by Erdogan's party when she denounced the operations carried out in Afrin. She was imprisoned as a result of her denounce and accused in turn of ‘supporting and directing a terrorist organization’.
Leyla Guven was sentenced to a prison term of 31 years. On 8 November she went on hunger strike to denounce the isolation against Abdullah Öcalan. Hundreds of her comrades joined the protest, starting indefinite hunger strikes. 8 of these comrades have died so far as a result of the hunger strike and Leyla's situation is very serious.
From the World March of Women in Euskal Herria, we want to support the struggle carried out by Leyla, and above all, denounce the complicity of Western countries as well as the silence of Amnesty International and the hypocrisy of the European Union. We want to denounce the persecution and harassment suffered by the Kurdish revolutionary comrades at the hands of the Turkish state, not only in Europe or in its territory, but in Basur (Iraqi Kurdistan) or in Rojava (Syrian Kurdistan) where there is total impunity. In these areas the military actions, bombings and operations that seek to destabilize the area are numerous.
Finally, we want to remember all the people who lost their life during this hunger strike. We believe that any path to solve the conflict and seek peace and justice in Kurdistan must inevitably involve Kurdish revolutionary forces.
We want to call for feminist internationalist solidarity to face the authoritarian, macho and oppressive Turkish regime.”
