Women in Raqqa organised 8 March activities

"We will follow Leyla Güven's resistance as a model and we will follow their path until we reach success.”

Raqqa Women’s Executive promoted a seminar within the framework of the 8 March International Women's Day activities.

Speaking at the seminar, Xaliya al-Kecwan of Raqqa Women's Executive, talked about the history of 8 March.

Noting the heroism and sacrifice of women in Northern and Eastern Syria, al-Kecwan said: “We celebrate the 8 March for the women of Afrin. We do not forget our martyrs, Avesta Xabûr and Barîn Kobanê which illuminate the path to freedom.

We will follow Leyla Güven's resistance as a model and we will follow their path until we reach success.”

A documentary was presented about the resistance and heroism of the Northern Syria women in the war zones against DAESH mercenaries.

Raqqa Women's Education Office also held a press conference. A statement was read by Office member Şehrezad Mihemed.

The statement said: “In 2011, at the beginning of the chaos in Syria, women stood up and armed themselves against DAESH. They reached the conscience of the world with their heroism. The Women's Defense Unions proved that no obstacle could stand in front of them. We celebrate Euphrates Women’s Day, and we saluted all our victories.”

The statement underlined that “This revolution rightly deserves to be called the revolution of the Syrian women. That is why we must protect our revolution. In particular, we celebrate 8 March for the women of Afrin. Defending Afrin means defending women's freedom. Women should stand up for Afrin.”
