Sinor Gelawej: ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadi’ uprising is the way out

KJAR Executive Council Member Sinor Gelawej stated that Jin, Jiyan, Azadi’ uprising is a way out for women.

Eastern Kurdistan Free Women's Community (KJAR) Executive Council Member Sinor Gelawej spoke to JIN TV about the ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’ (Woman, Life, Freedom) uprising that started in Eastern Kurdistan and Iran in 2022 after the murder of Jina Mahsa Amini. The 22-year-old Kurdish woman died in Tehran on 16 September 2022, after being arrested and mistreated by the Iranian morality police.

Sinor Gelawej said that the Iranian state sees the people as responsible for the political, social and economic crisis it is experiencing and that it has carried out all kinds of attacks for this purpose. She stated that the Iranian state prevented the participation of society, especially women, in life and isolated women from social, life and political spheres.

Sinor Gelawej pointed out that women's issue has turned into a blind knot, adding: “On the one hand, society attacks with all its might. On the other hand, women continue their struggle against it.”

Gelawej remarked that the hope for women to get out of the social, political and economic crisis experienced for 40 years is the ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’ uprising and that women participated in the uprising very strongly for this very reason.

Sinor Gelawej said that the Iranian state has been trying to eliminate the opposition for years, to suppress and silence those who raise their voices against oppression by labelling them as provocateurs.

‘Again, religion is the biggest weapon used by the regime on society’, Sinor Gelawej said, emphasising that the state sees itself as having the right to all kinds of judgements by calling it “anti-religion”.

“The Iranian regime has always used the death penalty as a basic tool to suppress the rising voice of freedom of the resistance and dissidents,’ Sinor Gelawej said, pointing out that, “However, when we look at history or the present day, it is clearly seen that the society does not give up in the face of this oppression.”

Sinor Gelawej noted that KJAR and PJAK have launched a campaign ‘No to execution, yes to free life’ against the increasing oppression and executions in recent times, and said that with this campaign, they aim to make the rising voice of freedom heard everywhere and spread the struggle to wider masses.

Sinor Gelawej added that despite all the oppression and attacks, the society led by women never gave up their struggle and concluded, “As Leader Abdullah Öcalan said, this century will be the century of women's freedom. The biggest proof of this is the ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’ uprising in Eastern Kurdistan.
