In Turkey all public activities of the Kurdish women's movement TJA and the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) have been banned on the international day for the elimination of violence against women. The women wanted to take to the streets under the motto "Against state and male violence".

In Kızıltepe district of Mardin, Cizre district of Şırnak and the Van province, the activists were obstructed by the police. The women protested against the arbitrary actions of the police and drew attention to the huge increase in cases of violence against women during the AKP government. In Cizre, the women were even prevented from leaving the local HDP headquarters. In Van, a planned demonstration had to be cancelled, the activists could only read a short statement in which they drew attention to the increasing elimination of women from the public sphere by the AKP regime, the increasing number of feminicides and the Turkish military invasion of north-eastern Syria.
