Plaza De Mayo Mothers founding member Nora Cortiñas dies

Nora Cortiñas, founding member of the Plaza De Mayo Mothers and a friend of the Kurdish people, has died at the age of 94.

Nora Cortiñas, a founding member of the Mothers of Plaza De Mayo movement, which was established in Argentina to find their missing children since the dictatorship, lost her life on the night of 30 May. Nora Cortiñas, who had been in intensive care for several days, died at the age of 94.

Nora Cortiñas, a symbol of memory, truth and justice against dictatorship, has been a supporter of the Kurdish people's just struggle for years. Nora Cortiñas, who was in Kurdistan for the second time in March 2019 to visit Leyla Güven in support of the hunger strike action launched in 2018 to break the isolation of the Kurdish People's Leader, has been in solidarity with the Kurdish people at every opportunity.

Most recently, she has taken part in campaigns, press conferences and demonstrations against the war crimes of the Turkish state. Her documentary ‘Pañelos Para la historia - Veils for history’ reflected the common suffering and resistance of Kurdish and Argentine mothers.

Nora Cortiñas was also one of the continental organisers of the ‘Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, a Political Solution to the Kurdish Question’ campaign launched globally last October.
