ALL EARNED RIGHTS ARE TAKEN AWAY ONE BY ONE

Arbitrary practices run rampant in Turkey’s prisons that have turned into torture centers with AKP government’s rule of emergency decree. In one of these prisons, Bakırköy Women’s Closed Prison, the wards of PKK prisoners have been forcibly evacuated. Cemile Çelik visited convict Dilek Öz and told the ANF that the B-5 and B-6 wards with PKK prisoners were raided on August 25 and forcibly evacuated. Stating that the cleaning and kitchen supplies bought from the canteen by the prisoners with their own money, Çelik protested: “They even took the salt shakers.” Çelik said the PKK prisoners were put into C-4 and C-5 blocks, and underlined that the earned rights of prisoners already in harsh conditions were being taken away one by one. Çelik also said friend visits for newly arrested people have been banned, and that pressure and torture have increased. Çelik called for public awareness in the face of this oppression.
