Peace Mothers protest Güven's arrest

The Peace Mothers Assembly protested DTK Co-Chair Leyla Güven's arrest and said, "Kurds will not back down".

The Peace Mothers Assembly held a press conference in Amed (Diyarbakır) on the imprisonment of Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-Chair Leyla Güven, who was sentenced to 22 years and 3 months in prison.

Raife Özbey, a member of the Peace Mothers Council, condemned Güven's arrest, saying; "We salute everyone who is on hunger strike in prison for their rights, who are in exile. Our hearts are beating with the hunger strikers. We will be in solidarity as long as we can."

'KURDS WILL NOT STEP BACK'

Özbey said that Leyla Güven is waging a struggle for rights, law, freedom and peace as a woman adding: "She did not hurt anyone. She did nothing. She is our pride. She has fought for the cause of freedom and peace. She never deserved a 22-year prison sentence. We want her release. We want this sentence to be lifted immediately. We strongly condemn this punishment. We now say ‘enough with cruelty’. How much longer will deaths, disappearances and exiles continue? The Kurds will never be dead and buried. They will not take a step back. Nobody should expect us to take a step back. As long as the Kurds exist, they will struggle for the law and rights.”
