Peace Mothers in Amed protest the death sentence against Warisha Moradi

Members of Peace Mothers’ Assembly in Amed protested the death sentence handed to Warisha Moradi by the Iranian state and said, “We condemn them and invite them to humanity.”

Members of Peace Mothers’ Assembly in Amed protested the death sentence against Kurdish activist Warisha Moradi, a member of the Eastern Kurdistan Free Women's Community (KJAR) imprisoned in Iran.

“Women mean life. Life means resistance and resistance means Warisha,’ Mürvet Demir said at the gathering in front of the Peace Mothers’ headquarters in the central district of Bağlar on Friday.

“We strongly condemn the Iranian regime and call on it to reverse the decision against Warisha Moradi and also to permanently halt its executions. We call on the international community to work towards the worldwide abolition of the death penalty,” Demir added.

Warisha Moradi has been in Iranian custody since August last year and is currently being held in the women's section of Tehran's notorious Evin Prison. Last week, she was sentenced to death by a court for ‘armed rebellion against the state’. The reason given for the sentence is the 38-year-old Kurdish woman's membership of KJAR, the umbrella organisation of the Kurdish women's movement in East Kurdistan and Iran. Moradi's lawyers have appealed against the death sentence.

The Peace Mothers also protested against the appointment of trustees to the municipalities of Batman, Mardin and Halfeti and removal of the democratically elected co-mayors from office on 4 November. “We will not give up our will and will continue to fight for the removal of the trustees from our cities. We will not allow our right to vote to be usurped,” Demir said.
