Paris Massacre protests in front of French consulates across Europe

Demonstrations were held throughout Europe on the fourth anniversary of the Paris Massacre. Protesters placed black wreaths in front of French consulates in several cities and demanded justice for Sakine Cansız, Fidan Doğan and Leyla Şaylemez.

BERLIN

A demonstration was held in front of the French consulate in German capital Berlin and protesters placed a black wreath saying “France sacrificed law to Erdoğan” in front of the consulate, where a woman representing justice stood watch.

In speeches during the demonstration, activists said dragging this case on, when the evidence was out in the open for the massacre in Paris, confirmed the complicity of France. Protesters also issued a call for a strong attendance to the demonstration to be held in Kleitspark on January 9 at 16:00.

Representatives from Berlin Êzidî Women’s Assembly and CİK Women’s Commission spoke in the demonstration. The group chanted slogans of “Sara, Rojbîn, Ronahî, Women, Life, Freedom” and “We demand justice” in 3 languages and flyers were passed out.

FRANKFURT

Amara Women’s Assembly gathered in front of the French consulate in Frankfurt, Germany to protest the 4th anniversary of the Paris massacre and placed a black wreath. The protesters also submitted a file to the French consulate and pointed out that the French state should abandon this dirty game and the massacre could not be covered up this way.

The group also called for attendance to the demonstration to be held in front of the Frankfurt Hauptwache on the anniversary of the Paris massacre, January 9, at 16:00. The demonstration concluded with chants of “Women, Life, Freedom.”

HANAU

An information stand on the Paris massacre was set up in Hanau, Germany. The protesters passed out flyers and gave the message that the massacre can’t be covered up. They also called for attendance to the demonstration in Frankfurt on January 9. The demonstration concluded with chants of “Jin Jiyan Azadi”.

A demonstration led by TJK-E and SKB was held in front of the French consulate in Belgian capital Brussels. The protesters carried photos of Cansız, Doğan and Şaylemez and chanted “We are all Sakine, Leyla and Fidan”, “Murderer Turkey”, “Murderer Erdoğan”.

ZURICH

A black wreath was placed in front of the French consulate in Zurich, Switzerland. The demonstration was held by the Beritan Women’s Assembly and the women carried a black wreath with a sash that read “Your silence is due to complicity.”

A short statement was read and women said that it is not acceptable that the case to shed light onto the Paris massacre has not yet started . The statement also included that the death of hitman Ömer Güney so short before the start of the case created suspicions for Kurdish women, and that France must act immediately in order to shed light onto the massacre. The black wreath was placed in front of the consulate after the statement and the demonstration concluded with chants.

COPENHAGEN

The Paris massacre was also protested in the Danish capital Copenhagen. The demonstration was led by the Sevê Women’s Assembly, and the women submitted a file to the French consulate. The file mentions the 3 years that have passed since the massacre and says: “With the only suspect in the case, Ömer Güney, dying before the trial started on January 23, the evidence that MİT and French intelligence committed the murders together has been removed. The French and Turkish governments have showed that they are taking an approach of denial in a joint decision against the Kurdish people with the suspicious death of the perpetrator.” The Sevê Women’s Assembly called on women and all patriotic Kurds in Copenhagen to attend the rally to be held in Axeltorv on January 7 at 12:30.

MARSEILLE

Led by the Arin Mirkan Women’s Assembly and the Democratic Society Center, hundreds of people gathered in front of the Governorate building in Marseille, France to demand the disclosure of the murderers of Cansız, Doğan and Şaylemez. Protestors carried signs that said “Is your silence due to your complicity?” and “No to political assassinations” and distributed pamphlets on the assasination of the 3 Kurdish woman politicians.

Arin Mirkan Women’s Assembly spokesperson Suzan Aydemir addressed the protestors and said that the assassination was carried out by a coalition that included the Turkish Intelligence Agency, and emphasized that they would continue to struggle for justice. Kurdish politician Cuma Tak also spoke during the protest, and said that the targeting of Cansız, Doğan and Şaylemez aimed to destroy Kurdish people’s desire for freedom.

RENNES

Led by the Zin Women’s Assembly, protestors organized a sit-in in front of the municipal building in Rennes, France, and said that they would continue to protest until the disclosure of the people responsible for the assassination of the three Kurdish revolutionary women.
