Online panel discussion on the current situation in Northern Syria

Online panel discussion to address ‘Women’s revolution as a beacon of hope in uncertain times. Women, freedom, Rojava: Between utopia and geopolitical reality.’

The fall of the Syrian regime has created new crises and new opportunities in the Middle East.  As Kurds in Syria celebrate the end of a regime that has rendered countless Kurds stateless and denied the existence of a Kurdish identity, language and culture, Turkish-backed militias equally hostile to Kurdish existence have launched new operations against areas held by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and threaten to advance further.

Kongreya Star, the Kurdish Women's Office, CENI - Kurdish Women's Office for Peace and the Kurdish Peace Institute are organising an online panel discussion on the current situation in Northern Syria and in particular the impact on and consequences for women.

Three renowned Kurdish women leaders from North and East Syria will participate in the panel discussion: Rohilat Afrin, commander-in-chief of the Women's Defence Units (YPJ), Foza Yusuf, board member of the PYD (Democratic Union Prty), and Shiraz Hemo, member of Kongra Star Coordination. Meghan Bodette from the Kurdish Peace Institute will moderate the panel discussion which will take place on 12 December 2024 at 19:00 CET and will be offered in English and Kurdish.
