Four more women and girls kill themselves in Iran

Four women and girls have committed suicide in Iranian capital Tehran and the provinces of Shiraz, Rafsanjan and Ahwaz.

Four new cases of suicide were recorded in Iran, which is among the top Middle Eastern countries in female suicides.

According to a statement by authorities on June 21, a sixth-grade student committed suicide in Shiraz in the Fars province.

According to the official news agency Roqna, Fars province judicial official Said Gulampur announced in a press statement that 348 people committed suicide in this province alone, and that most of them were between the ages of 15 to 45.

On June 20, a woman threw herself under a train in the Shuhada Square metro station in Tehran.

On June 18, a 14-year-old girl committed suicide in Rafsanjan in the Kirman province.

On June 17, a 35-year-old woman hanged herself on the Dadshahr district of the central city Ahwaz in the Kuzistan province.

At least 21 women had killed themselves during the months of April and May in Iran. The real number is assumed to be much higher than the official figures.

Political, societal and religious pressure, traditions, unemployment, financial issues, social inequality, injustice and anti-freedom policies and forces marriages are among the basic factors leading to suicides.
