Kurdish political prisoner Rizgar Begzadeh Babamiri sent a letter from Urmia Prison describing the pressures and torture he has endured.
In a letter, Kurdish political prisoner Rizgar Begzadeh Babamiri detailed the torture and abuse he endured in an Iranian prison: “I was held in detention for 130 days and subjected to torture during interrogation, including strangulation, mock executions, electric shocks, and sleep deprivation.
I am not a member or supporter of any party or group. I have never committed any inhumane, violent, or criminal act. My only crime was delivering medicine to those injured during the ‘Jin Jiyan Azadî’ protests, something I saw as a moral duty. I am a defender of human rights, yet they threaten to kill me and destroy my body.
I filed a complaint with the General Prosecutor’s Office, but the deputy prosecutor blocked its referral to the relevant judicial authorities, citing the statute of limitations.”
Rizgar Begzadeh Babamiri was detained by the Iranian Intelligence Organization on April 17, 2023, in the city of Bokan in Eastern Kurdistan (Rojhilat), for participating in the ‘Jin Jiyan Azadî’ uprising and providing medical assistance to those injured during the protests. He was later transferred to Urmia Prison.
Rizgar Begzadeh Babamiri is being prosecuted by the 10th Branch of the Urmia Revolutionary Court on charges of "arming, rebellion, assembly and conspiracy against national security, propaganda against the state, and espionage."
