European Kurdish Women's National Union Initiative established

Women representatives from all four parts of Kurdistan came together in Europe to support efforts toward Kurdish national unity and announced the formation of a new organization under the name "Initiative for the European Kurdish Women’s National Union."

Representatives from political parties, religious and faith institutions, and independent women’s organizations across the four parts of Kurdistan convened and decided to form this new initiative as part of broader national unity efforts.

In the statement issued after the meeting, the European Kurdish Women’s National Union Initiative was formally declared.

The declaration said: "As women from the four parts of Kurdistan, we come together on the 51st anniversary of the martyrdom of Leyla Qasim, one of the symbols of Kurdish women’s resistance, executed by the Ba'ath regime on 12 May 1974. Inspired by the legacy of resistance embodied by women like Sara, Hevrîn Xelef, and Şîrîn Elemhuli, we unite."

The initiative aims to unite Kurdish women under a shared vision, to safeguard and advance the tradition, struggle, and achievements of the Kurdish women's movement, calling on youth to gather under the slogan: "Unity is existence."

The statement underlined that May is a month that bears witness to historic moments in Kurdistan’s geography, and now embraces the long-awaited dream of Kurdish national unity. It continued: "As Kurdish women forcibly displaced from our lands, we support this historic step from Europe."

It further noted: "As Kurdish women from all four parts of Kurdistan now living in Europe, we salute the establishment of the Kurdish Women’s National Platform in Southern Kurdistan and celebrate the National Unity Conference held in Rojava, which was met with great enthusiasm by our people."

The statement added: "Once again, drawing strength and inspiration from our century-long struggle, we affirm our commitment to the legacy of our women comrades who sacrificed their lives for freedom and democracy.

We are now at a historic juncture to realize our national unity and to establish a confederal and democratic organization of women. In this context, we call on representatives of women’s organizations, women comrades from every political party, artists, intellectuals, writers, and female public figures to come together under the roof of the European Kurdish Women’s National Union.

Let us pass on the stories, history, art, labor, and struggle of women, who embody a century of resistance, to the generations that will build the future of our homeland.

Let us, as free Kurdish women, strengthen our unity and organize ourselves on the path to building a Free Kurdistan.

May the establishment of this Kurdish women's initiative be a celebration for all Kurdish women."
