YPJ Commander Zozan Hesekê laid to rest

The people of Cizre Canton bid farewell to fallen YPJ Commander Zozan Hesekê (Minewer Fatimê).

Zozan Hesekê, a commander in the ranks of the Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), fell a martyr while performing her duties on 2 April.

A glorious ceremony for the fallen YPJ commander Zozan Hesekê took place at the Şehit Dijwar Cemetery of Martyrs in Dawudiyê village in Hesekê.

The ceremony was attended by hundreds of people, including representatives of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, members of political parties and non-governmental organisations, and opinion leaders.

People coming from various cities, districts and towns of Cizre Canton joined the funeral procession from the Martyr Families Assembly centre to the cemetery.

After the military ceremony by YPJ fighters, speeches were made.

Fatme Elî, member of the Assembly of Martyrs’ Families in Hesekê, said: "Martyr Zozan started her struggle in the 1990s so that we women could reach these days. For 34 years, she struggled against oppression and tyranny."

Rohilat Efrîn, member of YPJ General Command, expressed her condolences and said, "Martyr Zozan's family has always embraced the freedom movement since its foundation."

Rohilat Efrîn stated that martyr Zozan took part in the operations to liberate Kobanê, Deir ez-Zor and Serêkaniyê together with YPJ commanders to protect the gains of the people of the region.

Kongra Star member Laleşîn Hesekê said, "Hesekê is a witness to martyr Zozan's struggle for the freedom of women and to protect the gains of the Rojava revolution."

After the speeches, the martyrdom certificate was read and handed over to the family. Zozan Hesekê was laid to rest with the slogan “Şehit Namirin” (Martyrs are immortal) and the chants of mothers.
