Îbtîsam Hisên of Kongra Star said that the Turkish state should declare a ceasefire against the PKK and take steps according to the process initiated by Öcalan if it is sincere about democracy, equality, peace and dialogue.
Îbtîsam Hisên, an executive member of the North-East Syrian women’s movement Kongra Star in Qamishlo Canton, stated that the struggle should be strengthened after Abdullah Öcalan’s ‘Call for Peace and Democratic Politics’.
Speaking to ANF, Îbtîsam Hisên stated that Öcalan has waged a great struggle for 26 years under severe conditions of isolation. “The peoples united around his paradigm and embraced the model he created. They have sought to confine him to the Imrali Prison for 26 years, but they failed. He broke down the walls of the dungeon with his paradigm.”
Hisên pointed out that Öcalan’s ‘Call for Peace and Democratic Society’ was a new process, a new history and a new era: “It was an important day for the Kurdish people. Leader Apo [Abdullah Öcalan]is in favor of the democratic coexistence of peoples. With his women's libertarian paradigm, he fights for the creation of a moral and political society. Leader Apo has brought women's identity into view again. He has become a comrade with women, fought for women to recognize themselves and built a life based on women's liberation. For this reason, women stand by Leader Apo in every step he takes.”
Îbtîsam Hisên emphasized that the Turkish state should take steps in the wake of Öcalan call and provide the necessary conditions for the call to come into effect: “Leader Apo made his call and showed his attitude. In order for the call to be implemented, Leader Apo must be released from Imrali, the Constitution must be changed, the rights of Kurds must be restored, and the prisoners must be released. The Turkish state cannot advance this process by attacking, massacring and continuing its genocidal policies. If it is sincere about democracy, equality, peace and dialogue, it should take steps according to the process initiated by Leader Apo, who called for laying down arms. In response, the Turkish state should also declare a ceasefire.”
Noting that the Kurds and other peoples have great duties and responsibilities in line with Öcalan’s call, Îbtîsam Hisên concluded, “The campaign for ‘Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan and a Political Solution to the Kurdish Question’ should be further expanded. In the wake of the call, the struggle should continue uninterruptedly, the resistance should be strengthened even more.”
