SDF fighters martyred in Turkish airstrikes in Shaddadi laid to rest in Kobanê

SDF fighters who were martyred in Turkish airstrikes in Shaddadi on 26 February were laid to rest at the Şehit Dîcle Cemetery of Martyrs in Kobanê.

As the Turkish state continues its invasion campaign against North-East Syria, a series of Turkish airstrikes targeted multiple areas in the Ruwaished desert in Shaddadi area, south of Heseke, on 26 February. Turkish warplanes and drones targeted a military position belonging to the SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces), in addition to homes housing civilian workers. Furthermore, a civilian vehicle carrying shepherds on the Khorafi road—linking Deir ez-Zor and Heseke—was also targeted. In total, more than 16 airstrikes were conducted in the area, claiming the lives of four SDF fighters, six civilian workers and two shepherds.

SDF fighters Cîger Kobanê (Cîgerxwîn Daban), Xebat Kobanê (Xebat El Remo) and Komandos Forces fighter Bahoz Kobanê (Cemal Şahîn), who lost their lives as a result of the attacks, were laid to rest at the Şehit Dîcle Cemetery of Martyrs in Kobanê on Saturday.

Speaking at the funeral ceremony that started with a moment of silence, Letfiyê Silêman, an executive member of the North-East Syrian women’s movement Kongra Star, said: “Martyrs are the ones who defend the rights of our people. We must claim them and follow their struggle.”

Mihemed Oso, a member of the Kobanê Military Council Administration, said: “Our weapons are our self-defense. We are not in love with weapons, but we carry them to protect our people and our land. We will continue our struggle until we gain our freedom and we will defend our people until the end.”

Fehan Hec Îsa, Co-Chair of the Euphrates Canton Administration Council, said, “In 2014, the people of Kobanê destroyed the mercenaries as a result of a selfless fight. Today, they are resisting at Tishrin Dam with the same determination.”

Zagros Şahîn, brother of martyr Bahoz Kobanê, emphasized that they are proud of their martyrs and will continue their struggle until the end.

After the speeches, the martyrs' certificates were read and handed over to their families.

The fallen fighters were laid to rest to the accompaniment of the slogan “Şehîd namirin” [Martyrs are immortal].
