People of Zirgan under attack: We will not leave our land!

Citizens in Zirgan vowed to resist the attacks of the Turkish state and its mercenaries, saying that “The Turkish state wants to drive us out, but we will not leave our land.”

The attacks of the Turkish state and its mercenaries against the Zirgan district of the Hesekê Canton continue. The Turkish state has been targeting Zirgan continuously since it occupied Serêkaniyê and Girê Spi in October 2019.

The people of Zirgan, however, remain determined to resist the attacks, stressing that they will not leave their land.

'TURKISH PLANS WILL FAIL'

Speaking to ANHA, a citizen named Mihemed Elî El Hemîd said that the aim of the Turkish aggression against Zirgan was to intimidate the local people and force them to migrate.

Another citizen named Radi Mihemed pointed out that Turkey wanted to evacuate the region by intimidating the locals. “The Turkish state forces us to migrate, but its plans will fail. We will not leave our home and land,” he said.

Mihemed condemned Russia and the USA, the guarantor states in North and East Syria, saying, “Russia and the USA are no good to the region. Their presence makes no sense, they just patrol in their vehicles. They are not ending the Turkish crimes against us."

The Turkish state deliberately targets the properties of citizens and public utilities in its attacks. Although dozens of citizens were martyred and injured because of the attacks, the local people maintain that they are loyal to their land and reject the policies of forced migration.

‘WHERE WILL WE GO IF WE LEAVE OUR HOUSES?’

“Where will we go if we leave our homes? These are our homes, which we will never leave, no matter what,” Hîlala Îbrahim said, emphasizing her commitment to her home.

Another citizen named Uwêşe Mehmud El Hisên said that they would not leave their lands to the invaders. “The invaders do not fear Allah. They destroy our houses and slaughter women, men and children. This is our land, we will never leave it,” she said.

The Zirgan district of Hesekê Canton is located 30 km from Serêkaniyê and 20 km from Til Temir. More than 23 thousand Kurdish, Arab, Armenian, Syriac and Assyrian citizens live in Zirgan, where there are approximately 72 villages. Gathered under the roof of 42 assemblies and communes, its citizens are resisting the attacks of the Turkish state and its mercenaries.
