The KCK Executive Council issued a statement on the 100th anniversary of the execution of Kurdish people's leader Sheikh Said and his comrades.
The co-presidency of the KCK Executive Council regarding the 100th anniversary of the execution of Kurdish people's leader Sheikh Said (Şêx Seîd) and his comrades.
The statement said: "Exactly one hundred years have passed since the execution of Sheikh Said and his companions, who have a special place in the history of the Kurdish people and are always remembered with great respect and gratitude. On this 100th anniversary of their execution, we once again remember Sheikh Said and his companions with great respect and bow our heads in respect before their precious memories. In this course, we also remember all the martyrs who gave their lives for the revolution and for the struggle for democracy. The work and efforts being made by the KNK on this occasion are very precious and meaningful."
The statement added: "Sheikh Said was a brave, conscious, and sensitive patriot and leader of his people. He did not accept the injustice suffered by the Kurdish people and opposed the denialist policy imposed on them. His struggle was a historical resistance against the injustice and denialist policy that the people suffered from.
Although their struggles were suppressed by the genocidal fascist state’s massacres and executions, their resistance, courage, and refusal to compromise on their cause, even in the face of execution, made a significant contribution to the development of the tradition of resistance in Kurdistan. It is the result of the struggles of Sheikh Said and Seyit Rıza that resistance and struggle never ceased in Kurdistan, continuing until the emergence of the PKK. With the emergence of the Kurdish people’s leader, Abdullah Öcalan, and the PKK onto the historical stage, the struggle of Sheikh Said and his companions entered a new historical phase, and the national revival revolution was realized, breaking the policy of denial and annihilation."
The statement continued: "The Kurdish people’s historical struggle has developed within this context. Now, with Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan’s historical initiative, the ‘Call for Peace and Democratic Society’, this struggle has entered the stage of building the Kurdish people’s freedom. The Kurdish people will successfully develop this process and bring the struggle they have developed at great cost from Sheikh Said to the present day to a conclusion, achieving their historical desire for freedom. The pledge and expectation that Sheikh Said’s grandchildren would not be disgraced by his execution and would continue the struggle will also be fulfilled. Let no one doubt that the Kurdish people will achieve this. With this thought and belief, we once again honor all the martyrs of revolution and democracy, represented by Sheikh Said and his companions, with respect and gratitude, and we reiterate our promise to the martyrs."
