DEM Party holds meetings in the United States

A DEM Party delegation held meetings in the United States between June 22–28.

A DEM Party delegation, consisting of Ebru Günay, co-deputy chair responsible for the DEM Party Foreign Relations Commission; Mehmet Rüştü Tiryaki, co-deputy chair responsible for Democratic Local Administrations; and Diyarbakır MP Ceylan Akça, carried out engagements in the United States.

While in Washington, D.C., and the surrounding area, the delegation held a public meeting with DEM Party supporters living there and also paid a courtesy visit to Turkey’s Ambassador to Washington, Sedat Önal.

At a roundtable organized by the Middle East Institute (MEI), the delegation met with representatives from think tanks and diplomatic circles. During the meeting, recent developments in Turkey, Iran, and Syria as well as the broader situation in the region were discussed.

The DEM Party delegation also held meetings with some members of the U.S. Senate and relevant departments within the State Department to exchange views on bilateral relations, democratization, and regional developments. The delegation visited the Washington Representation Office of the Kurdistan Regional Government as well, where they discussed national unity and the Peace and Democratic Society Process.

In Philadelphia, the delegation met with the Board of Directors and members of the Foreign Policy Research Institute (FPRI) to exchange ideas on global and regional issues. In New York, they also held a meeting with the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA).

Later, the DEM Party delegation met again in Washington with representatives and journalists from various U.S.-based media outlets to share assessments of political developments in Turkey and the DEM Party’s approach to these issues.
