The MSD dismissed the 'National Dialogue Congress' in Damascus as superficial and insincere.
In a written statement, the Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) said that they have been closely following the process of the "National Dialogue Congress," which took place in Damascus on February 25, 2025.
In the statement, the MSD said: "We previously issued a statement rejecting the selection process of the congress’s preparatory committee, its ideological stance, and its declarations. The organization of this congress is a continuation of the mentality of neglect and exclusion that has dominated the Syrian political scene for decades."
The statement added: "The failure to fairly represent all national, social, and political components of Syria, along with the rushed organization of the congress without clear foundations or real guarantees, demonstrates that no serious discussions took place regarding Syria’s fate and future. This event is nothing more than a superficial arrangement. Furthermore, the congress does not present a viable solution or a clear framework for national cooperation in rebuilding Syria."
The statement continued: "The Damascus government’s manipulation of political decisions, its exclusion of active national groups and forces, and its reliance on outdated and failed methods will only deepen divisions and eliminate any chance of a successful transition. The Damascus government should have moved away from the regime’s traditional approach and engaged in a serious, sincere, and inclusive dialogue to create a transition period that could have fulfilled the hopes of the Syrian people."
