Mass demonstration in Qamishlo on the 10th anniversary of AANES vows to continue the struggle

A central march was staged in Qamishlo on the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria (AANES).

On the 10th anniversary of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, declared on 21 January 2014, Cizre Canton Administration organised a central march in Qamishlo city on Sunday under the slogan "We will defeat the occupation with a revolutionary people's war, we will protect our revolution".

Tens of thousands of people from Girkê Legê, Çilaxa, Til Koçer, Tirbespiyê, Til Hemîs, Dirbêsiyê, Til Temir, Til Birak, Shaddadi, Qamişlo, Dêrik and Hesekê participated in the march in the city center.

A wide range of civil society organisations, women's and youth organisations, Kurdish, Arab and Syriac political parties and representatives of the assembly and council of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of Cizre Canton took part in the march.


Those participating in the march, which coincided with the unprecedented escalation of attacks by the occupying Turkish state, displayed photographs depicting the crimes committed by the Turkish state and flags of the Democratic Autonomous Administration.

The march was followed by a rally, where Şêro Şero, Co-Chair of the Assembly of Martyrs' Families, addressed the crowd.

Şêro Şero said, "The Democratic Autonomy project has been subjected to internal and external attacks since the first day. However, the unity and common struggle of the peoples has been the best response to the attacks aiming to destroy the will of the people. We will continue our struggle on the path of Leader Abdullah Öcalan to protect our gains."

Speaking after, Cizîr Canton Legislative Assembly Co-Chair Hikmet Hebil said: "Thanks to the unity and sacrifices of the peoples and their belief in the democratic autonomy project, we have preserved our gains and built our system. Our struggle will continue until the rights of all peoples are achieved and a democratic Syria is built."

Henîfe Mihemed, member of the Women's Committee of the Qamishlo Assembly, made a speech accompanied by the slogan "Jin, Jiyan, Azadî"(Woman, Life, Freedom) and emphasised that the gains of society, women and the revolution are in danger due to the enemies of democracy and the nation-state mentality.

Henîfe Mihamed said, "It is the duty of all women to protect the gains. Let us fulfil our duty to protect the legacy of the martyrs".
