The Democratic Islamic Congress of North and East Syria convened with 540 delegates at Mihemed Şêxo Culture and Art Centre in Qamishlo.
The third congress is attended by members of the Democratic Autonomous Administration and Kongra Star, as well as representatives of the Yazidi religion and the Zoroastrian faith.
Şêx Ebdullah Şêxo, a member of the Democratic Islamic Congress, recited Surah Âl-i Imran after a moment of silence.
Delal Xelîl and Mihemed El Xerzanî, Co-Chairs of the Democratic Islamic Congress, made the opening speeches of the congress where a council of five members was formed.
In their opening speeches, Delal Xelîl and Mihemed El Xerzanî emphasised the aspects of Islam that serve humanity and drew attention to the fact that ruling systems manipulate religions in line with their own interests. The co-chairs stated that religions should live in a way based on mutual acceptance and compassion.
Al-Xerzanî added that he hoped the congress would become a point of change by recognising different views.
Hemdan al-Abid, Deputy Co-Chair of the Executive Council of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria, and Kongra Star spokesperson Rîhan Loqo are expected to deliver speeches at the congress.
In addition, Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan's perspective on Abrahamic religions, the written message sent to the congress by the KCK Peoples and Beliefs Committee, the annual activity report and the congress charter will be read. At the end of the congress, new co-chairs will be elected.
